New major and minor approved by the Television Radio Department
New Major and minor approved by the Television-Radio Department of the Roy H. Park School of Communication. The faculty of the Park School also approved the degree. It will be listed in the catalog for Fall 2009 as Game Design and Immersive media. It is a BFA degree because we concentrate not just on the computer programming side (that would be a BS degree), not just on analysis (that would be a BA degree), but on a mix of the arts and sciences and production. Students interested in the new Game Design and Immersive Media Degree will apply to the television-radio department in the Park School.

Game Design Course in Spring 2008
Kim Gregson and Sharon Stansfield are offering Game Design in Spring 2008. The class is partly in the television-radio department and partly in computer science. Students get 2 credits from each department. Students are making games in Game Maker and creating levels n 3D GameStudio. They are also discussing topics such as character tyeps, differences between 2d and 3d game production, story, effects of sound, and the decisions the game designer has to make.
New Game Design Major Proposed
The Television-radio department is developing a videogame design and immersive media degree, along with the Computer Science and Art History departments. The goal of the degree is to prepare students for a variety of jobs in the game design industry but also to have skills of interest to related media industries.
